Monday is about movies, and sometimes TV. Today, a most unhappy birthday to the worst rom com, worst Xmas film, and worst big budget, high-expectation film of all time. Of all time.
I love a cheesy Christmas film, and have several I like to return to every year, but love actually had never really been on my radar. Finally rewatched it last year for the first time since it came out and my oh my it has aged badly!
Saw it for the first time this year, loved it. You need to have a pure heart to enjoy it 😁 I bought my mum the dvd, that’s how I ended up seeing, now we watch it periodically over dinner. VERY coincidentally, YouTube suggested to me TODAY a clip of Hugh Grant reviewing scenes from his films and he mentioned his wife loves this film particularly and had said ‘all the characters are dealing with pain’. Which is true. It’s actually a sad film dressed up as a Christmas romcom. Guess it depends what you want from a film because I tend to want to look at things which aren’t going to strain my brain, blood pressure or cortisol levels or give me PTSD, but that’s just me…
Our mutual hatred of this movie was one of the things that attracted me to my husband on one of our first dates! We were dragged along to see it at the cinema when it came out by my flatmates. I knew he was a keeper when we both turned to each other afterwards and said ‘that was shit’, while they were all saying how much they loved it! 21 years later we’re still going strong. Shame the movie still is. Loved this review thanks
No excuse for that film. A glut of A list pommie thespians phoning it in while plucky Emma Thompson goes down with the ship by attempting actual acting. And then there’s the relentless music bullying your emotions in every frame. If feeling good requires the removal of my cerebral cortex then I’ll stay miserable thanks. Richard goddamn Curtis man….
I feel exactly the same way. Saw it once, never wish to again. I have a friend who rewatches it every Xmas. It's her favourite movie. You know how you have a friend and you have so much in common and then that one thing comes up and you're like "Who the heck even are you?"

And it’s aged so, so badly.

Haha - totally, the “how are we even friends?” bit that eventually occurs as a result of one thing like this! :)
But what do you really think?
Blatantly not a fan! :)
Moore Wilson’s, the Cold Play of supermarkets. Ha ha ha ha…so good.
