Big JT fan. Seen him twice in recent years, and love the early albums - the first few - but when it comes down to it his Greatest Hits is the encapsulation of the magic, really.

It really is… my mum listens to it about once a week and I don’t mind at all… I told you this story before but think I saw him in Central Park once, this guy was playing James Taylor songs on a guitar and people were gathered around listening intently and clapping politely and he sounded exactly like James Taylor only he had no hair but this was the beginning of the 2000s and I had no idea what James Taylor was looking like post 1970s and didn’t have a “smart” phone to pull out a google images search so I was saying to my ex “omg this guy sounds exactly like James Taylor!” When we got back to Nz I did google to discover yes James Taylor did look like that, I’m sure it was him. Wish I had talked to him but if I had I would have said something dumb like “you sound exactly like James Taylor!” 😂🙈

Love Why Do Birds Sing? Great album. In general I’ve always detested greatest hits packages especially the Bowie Changes, all the songs out of context never sitting well with each other. I’ll chuck in My Bloody Underground by Brian Jonestown Massacre as a post “greatest hits”

Yeah, it’s so good. And so sweet. And so perfectly sums up the Femmes for me. No ‘punk’ ‘shock value’ antics. Just playing. But still humour and anxiety and all the things that make them truly special in their way.

BJM shoutout is appreciated, I know that album and dug it at the time, and have always enjoyed seeing them - so I’ll head back to that one for a new listen. Cheers!
