Wednesday is about books. And/or writing. And therefore reading. This week, I'm planning my holiday-reads for my fast approaching holiday. (Sorry!) /not sorry
I regularly try to quit Marc Maron - although his July 3 talk with Robert Guffey about conspiracy theories will remind you why you started listening to him in the first place.
I love Naomi Klein’s writing. She wrote an excellent one about the climate crisis and what grassroots organisations are doing about it called “this changes everything” (great doco too). Good on her for turning a truly horrible case if mistaken identity into art - I will be on the look out for the Doppelgänger book.
I remember Maria Bamford’s cameos on Arrested Development, I thought she was hilarious but had no idea about the rest of her work - will go & look out her comedy specials now.
For packing - I put my books in my carry on backpack, no one weighs it :)
Yes - though shipping to NZ from America is mostly bonkers at present, but it might have to be the case - we'll see. First world probs, and all that... :)
1. There was a terrific interview with Maria Bamford on Marc Maron's podcast a couple of weeks ago.
2. Naomi Klein's short book on the Iraq War - No War: America's Real Business In Iraq - is superb. Great holiday reading.
3. Here's a link to a Matthew Sweet interview with Naomi Wolff (at about 19.50) in which she learns that her understating of the British legal term "Death recorded" - on which she based her latest inflammatory book - is the opposite of what she thinks it is. Great moment in journalism! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m00057k4
1. I've almost cured myself of the weekly affliction/addiction of tuning in to Marc Maron's podcast. 10 years of following it and I've kinda had enough I think. But I did see Bamford was back on it, and thought I'd prob listen in to that one; I think I'll just cherry pick from now on with that (and most podcasts).
2. Yeah - i need to read No War, and a couple others.
3. Thanks. Listened to the "Got ya!" moment, which was great. Might listen to the whole thing, as background to reading the book - don't intend to read any Wolff still.

Yeah - carry on for sure, but what happens when you carry back more than you can even carry-on! :) LOL
I guess I'll be able to report back on that in a month or so...
Bamford is AMAZING. Acquired taste, but if you already found her funny in one guise, I think you'll be into some more of what she does.
Could post some back? I used to do that part way through a longer trip if I’d acquired too much along the way

Ah, America - yeah it took me almost 6 months to get books from there so I see your quandary.
("...her understanding," of course. "Understating" is not a Naomi Wolf term)

All solid points.
