I was at a party in the weekend. Classic Kiwi party. Pass-arounds. A fire on inside, gas-heaters in the tent. The beer was flowing like wine. The wine was being served from the biggest bottle I’ve ever seen – it took two people to distribute it. And in the corner of the lounge, at just the right time, the TV went on for the rugby. It was the Crusaders (that awful name – they had the chance to change it, to do something different with it, something decent and kind and, erm, ‘aware’ and worthwhile and they blew it). And it was some Aussie team – I don’t care all that much for the ruggers – but I can follow it.
In the early 70’s we lived in Fiji. Every Sunday morning my dad and I would go to the Fiji Club and play snooker. I never won and he never let me win but I got pretty good trying to. A great memory and I still love the game
I got into watching snooker with my mum, she loves it. I remember fangirling over Jimmy White, and marveling at Steve Davis. I fancied myself a bit of a pool shark i uni days, there was a table on my floor at the halls. I have also started watching it again recently, don't know the new names, but stll love the game. And darts, fascinated by darts, the show and the pageantry and the drama on point.
