Could one enjoy this movie if one didn’t care for or about Robbie Williams, his jolly tunes and his end-of-the-pier sentimental narcissism in any way whatsoever? Just cos one might think the ape idea is pretty cool?

Yes, I feel that’s how I approached it, with just a soup spoon of external baggage ;)

“ it is about a narcissistic mid-talent pop star with the thinnest of skins, and a desperation to be adored all whilst acting like a juvenile prick for most of his life.”

What are you some kind of baby eater? 😂😂😂

I only knew Robbie Williams from two ribald appearances on The Graham Norton Show so I watched the movie without precondeptions and enjoyed it. The monkey was indeed a brilliant choice. It's not a great movie by any means but it's fun as a casual watch.

Yes - totally - like I say better than it has any right to be, but not a classic by any stretch. Sherman, you won’t know this, but after I gave Robbie a ‘bad’ review of a show he did in NZ he tweeted a photo of me and my then baby calling me fat, etc. and there was some international media about it and it still comes up from time to time. This all happened nearly a decade ago, anyway I wasn’t going to go to the movie ;) but am kinda glad I did.

Loved this review and thank you for doing it! The audible gasp I made when he said Never Ever isn’t a number 1!! It’s a masterpiece! An anti feminist anthem lol
