Thanks for these references. I'd also recommend "The face of Battle" by John Keegan from 1976. It looks at Agincourt, Waterloo, the Somme, as well as the Tet Offensive and drone possibilities, from the point of view of frontline soldiers as well as local citizens and bystanders. There maybe something more recent, but it remains deeply moving and full of foresight.
