The Subscriber Digest: October 2023
From time to time I drop in with some weekend listening, reading and viewing recommendations and life updates. For the paying subscribers of course...
Hey there, since dropping back into your inbox at the start of September I thought I’d try to make this a regularly monthly update. A few recommendations, a bit of what I’m up to, and a wrap of “Off The Tracks” highlights - these are things I post to the Substack site, but don’t send out as regular newsletters (at least not usually). These are album reviews, and occasional blogs and columns and creative writing. A reminder too that you can follow me on Instagram - where I plug each Off The Tracks/ “Sounds Good!” newsletter or blog post. And constantly share what I’m listening to, watching, and reading. I also post a lot of pics of road cones, my dog, pictures inside my house, stupid things written on footpaths and walls, and whatever takes my fancy really.
Obviously, I’m just back from holiday in America, which I wrote about all through the last couple of weeks - I won’t reshare, but if you missed anything, have a look, there’s some travel photos, and stories. I missed seeing Natalie Merchant - due to illness (her, not me). Which is a total bummer. But that’s what happens. No gig is UNMISSABLE. I’ve seen more shows than you, probably. I’ve certainly seen more than most. And I worked out a while ago, that anything more is a bonus. I’ve truly seen enough great gigs to last a lifetime. So, yeah, I’m sure there’ll be more, but if not - so be it. There was more in America too - or rather, I’d already seen Tangerine Dream and Dinosaur Jr, so, as I say, can’t complain.
One thing I didn’t expect to happen, was how hooked I would get on the Tangerine Dream setlist. I shared it on this site for anyone interested, in the form of a playlist. And I’ll share it again right here. My god, I’ve listened to this most days since the gig. It’s just the perfect chill thing for me.
My absolute back to reality moment will kick in from Monday…
Anyway, until then, here’s some bonus picks and tips and recommends…and a wrap of some of the newer content hiding here on the site…as always, I thank you so much for your time, and energy, your eyeballs, your contribution via subscription. Your connection…
