That Time I Wrote A Press-Quote To Order:
A little tale of writing the quote for the poster before I wrote the thing the quote was actually taken from!
If in doubt…make it up. We’re all just making it up as we go along, right? But what about press-quotes? Sure. You can make them up too. I did, one time…
Head Like A Hole was announcing its first significant comeback tour. They’d played a reunion show or two — and the gigs had gone well. I’d been there. At Mighty Mighty. At Homegrown. I’d interviewed Booga, spent a day with him in fact, getting to know him, getting to know all about the band…
And then, a wee while on from the early reunion signs, they decided they wanted to tour. And they hit me up for a quote, the idea being I’d write a blog post for my daily Blog On The Tracks (back in the Stuff.co.nz daze) and they’d get something from that for their poster.
Only one problem…
They needed their copy for the poster a.s.a.f.p. And I wasn’t due to write my next blog for at least a day. Their deadline was looming a lot faster. So I just wrote the first thing that came into my head, something I meant, I guess, sure, absolutely, but also something they could stretch out across the whole of a poster.
