It’s Easter. And that might mean something to you on a deeply religious level, or it might not. And I’m not here to comment on that either way. But it is fair to say that – for most people – it means a short holiday. Some time off. A couple of days where the shops are closed.
We aren’t going anywhere, so to speak. We’re having a staycation.
Time not working is time reading, is time doing LEGO, is time relaxing…
I’ve got a giant reading list, a stack of DVDs from the corner video store, a couple of sets of LEGO, a jigsaw puzzle, and some family in town. So that’s me sorted, mate.
I’m aiming for a sleep-in or two. But if I hope too much for one it never happens. I just have to go with it, and if the sleep-in doesn’t eventuate, an afternoon nap usually does. I’ll happily rob Peter to pay Paul.
Something I wanted to mention, I’ve integrated my podcast with Substack. So, you can find that here now. It’s been a while since I’ve added an episode, but I do plan to get back to it. I’m pleased to have it here on/at Substack now, all in the one place. And if you’re new to the podcast – welcome. There’s a decent archive of fantastic guests on offer. Dig in.
Today I thought I’d have most of a day off. That’s really no newsletter as such.
But I wanted to make up some music for your Good Friday and your Easter weekend.
Four days of holiday for most people. So rather than the usual single playlist to conclude a Friday newsletter, I’ve made four for you (and for me). I’ve kept each one to 20 songs. A few different moods on offer.
First up, an Easter set of songs.
Well, it seemed fitting. These are songs that mention Easter in the title or the lyrics or are connected to the theme. There are some very tenuous links, and so maybe you’ll get a giggle or two from some of the entries – but also maybe you’ll really like some of the music.
Now, the second playlist is a recreation of a record I just bought.
Phil Spector’s Greatest Hits is a single LP compilation from 1976 – and I found it in a store recently and had to have it. There are other great songs connected to the songwriter/producer, but as a one-stop single-serve album this is pretty terrific. I wanted to share the love so made a playlist version for ya. He may have been a very bad man but the music he had a hand in is undeniably brilliant.
Thirdly, a picture of Graham Brazier was doing the rounds this week on various social media. It was from Rip It Up, dated 1978. The Braz had been asked to share his Top 20 songs of all-time. What a list! Near perfect. I had to make that up as a playlist too.
So that’s one playlist for each of the first three days of your Easter break.
And as always, A Little Something For The Weekend. Vol. 60 will be the fourth and final playlist for your holiday, for your wee break from work, for you time with family and friends, or your time by yourself.
There’s a lot on in this world right now. Not a lot of it is great. So, reminders of the good stuff, little prompts, happy memories, we find those – so often – in music. I hope you find something in any of these playlists. And if you have a good one you’ve made recently why not share it below.
Happy Easter. Happy long weekend. Happy listening.
