Reb Fountain live at the Opera House
Last night (Saturday, August 20) I saw Reb Fountain play a gig at The Opera House in Wellington. It was sublime.
I miss reviewing gigs. I did it for nearly 20 years. And it was mostly great fun, even when the gig wasn’t. But when a concert was amazing it was such a thrill to wake up the next day and try to put that in words - or back in the newspaper days I’d have to write it the same night, sometimes in 10-15 minutes; sometimes while the show was still going. I’m a 75% retired music writer these days but the question I still get asked the most - and admittedly this is usually by myself - is whether I’ll continue to review gigs. It is a real treat heading along to something and not having to write about it after. It’s nice to pay your own money and just be there as a punter. But sometimes a gig is really, truly special.
