Poem: Xmas, 2025
Christmas holiday poem, 2025
Walked under the shade of a decent
canopy; trees doing their work.
The dogs spotted the dead cat
before I did. One took a bite at it
to be sure. I had the first
Genesis album in my ears.
It was early enough
on Christmas Day.
Presents unwrapped, although
the dogs sure thought they’d
found one more. Grateful for all
I have, and for the break.
Someone’s pet not coming home.
Symbol of everything Christmas
wishes never cover.
