Poem: That Was Now & This Is Then
A poem about how things are no better and no worse. They never have been. They always will be.
I don’t have all the answers, or even close to
half - but I thought right then at the start
that to go back any further wouldn’t be the
laugh that’s often said (yet hardly ever felt).
Perhaps what I’m trying to express is that
the old days weren’t any greater - let alone
even good. They were just days. We are
lucky to have them and yet to look at
most of us you might never even know.
Things can always be worse, or so they say.
But you never hear anyone tell you that
twice. Like and all advice, take it with
a grain - and do you best to give back
anything that does not resemble it.
