Poem: Measured

“You’ve got to watch him”,

I remember the guy saying,

“He’ll steal your glass eye and shit in the socket”.

How, I wondered, would you see it – and why would you want to?

But the line has stayed with me longer than most things I learned in school.

I’ve used the line without knowing its origin

I’ve possibly even claimed it as my own.

Not that I’m doing that now.
