Playlist: The Jazz Fusion Contusion Comes From Cruising For Aural Bruising

A playlist featuring three hours of fantastic jazz fusion, y’all!

From time to time, I like to make and share playlists — you lot know that by now. Here’s one I made that’s all jazz fusion all the time! Why? Well, I reckon the genre gets a bit of a bad rap. But at the same time, I also find the genre a bit much — I mean, by its very nature it is. But you know, I try to dive back in and remind myself, and end up going ‘where’s the soul?’ / ‘Where’s the heart?’ It’s all so academic. Mostly. But listen closely and alongside and within the blistering technique there’s some amazing melodies and some emotional moments. I tried to find a few of those for this playlist.

This was the stuff I was listening to a lot when I was 19 and 20, and constantly got smacked by these great players.
