Playlist: Some Other 80s

A playlist of 1980s songs, but not the ones you're used to finding on similarly titled playlists.

From time to time I like to make, and share playlists. A while back I was obsessed with the idea that 1980s’ music was poorly represented, or incorrectly represented by the standard “80s” DJ nights and playlist and mixtapes and compilations (and soundtrack albums). I’m a child of that time, and I love (almost) all of that music.

But my 1980s also featured Miles Davis and Ry Cooder, and Tracy Chapman…things you wouldn’t get as part of a DJ set.

I set out to DJ a series of “The Other 80s” nights. I didn’t get that far. I did it a handful of times. And it was fun. And I think now and then of how I’d like to give it a whirl again. Music for chilling out to, rather than dancing. But hey, the set would build for a bit of a boogie too.

Here’s one such playlist - I’ve updated it from when I played most of these songs in mostly this order. I wanted it to total 80 songs. So, try this out…
