In a new occasional series for paid subscribers. I’m going to take albums that need “fixing” and make them what they should have been…
Today’s fix is All Things Must Pass by George Harrison.
It’s another very obvious candidate for the “fix” given it is a swollen triple album and contains a messy, pointless (nearly ugly) jam to conclude. That’s an easy trim right there…
But at the same time the audacity of the project was part of its magic — and statement. The “Quiet Beatle” had somewhat been silenced, wild to think My Sweet Lord and the title track from this album could have been on the last album by his old crew. But no. Paul said nah. Etc.
There were other songs from a while back too. George hit his writing straps in and around the India visit, and from 1968-1970, via connection with Bob Dylan, and friendship with Eric Clapton, and disenchantment with The Beatles (probably watching John disappear before his eyes into heroin, and getting sick of annoying “Big Brother” Paul being all lecture-y) he really started to stockpile some absolute fucking gems.
