“I’ll Fix This. I Can Make It Cool Again!” (Vol. 6)
In a new occasional series for paid subscribers. I’m going to take albums that need “fixing” and make them what they should have been…
Today’s fix is a biggie — The Wall by Pink Floyd
The Wall is a double album. It’s a concept album. A rock-opera of sorts. It would go on to be the influence for a movie, so therefore it becomes a soundtrack. So I have no business trimming it at all. Which is precisely why I want to.
That. And I’ve almost always kinda hated The fucking Wall. I say, almost, of course I loved it when I first heard it — mind-blowing. And then again the second, third, fourth, and even 85th times…but then something in me snapped. I remain a Pink Floyd fan. For my sins, perhaps. I don’t think Dark Side of the Moon has a hair of place. It’s ready to be centre of the family photograph always. And I adore albums that others find fault with (Animals, A Momentary Lapse of Reason, Atom Heart Mother). Like, really, really adore.
But The Wall kinda absolutely gives me the shits.
