“I’ll Fix This. I Can Make It Cool Again!” (Vol. 3)
In a new occasional series for paid subscribers. I’m going to take albums that need “fixing” and make them what they should have been…
Today’s fix is for Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti.
You’re thinking that’s almost as crazy as when I decided that Bob Dylan’s Blood On The Tracks needed fixing.
And, again, I’ll qualify this at the top by saying that not only do I love Led Zeppelin’s sixth studio album, it’s quite possibly my favourite — certainly the album I go to more often than any other by the band these days. But it still suffers some plays from being a Double Album. It’s just too much of a good thing. And with 11-minute tracks and piano boogie-woogies in there, it’s not unreasonable to say there’s some fat to trim. There’s almost always fat to trim from a double album. Find me a perfect album, and I’ll find a fan that’s just too eager to stay high on the Ultimate Fan list.
