I often wonder what Dave Armstrong might be thinking about a particular topic or issue. Dave Armstrong is a musician and columnist, a playwright and scriptwriter for TV and film. He has some deep insights into the national psyche, is smart, and talented, has a quick wit, and his own way with a line.
All of that qualifies him, of course, for such line of inquiry.
But the real reason I wonder, is because I had a phone that used to pocket-dial him all the time: Walking home late at night, watching movies on my own, at work, when asleep, even while driving.
Sometimes I’d hang up in horror, realising 15 minutes had ticked by. Other times I might receive a text message from him with just a question mark.
At first I was flattered — he too clearly wanted to know what I was thinking.
Shortly after, I deleted his contact entirely, switched phones, and if he reads this, I’ll deny any of it ever happened.
Hilarious!
Omg I love this - I deleted David Farrier's number from my phone because my son as a toddler called him like 15 x in a row and I was so mortified. I think with the time difference it was during the night as well 🫠I think I had tried to get hold of him but he had been recording or something so texted that he couldn't talk and then got 15 missed calls from my kid fml. He also called Jacinda Ardern during lockdown to ask how long the playground would be closed. I now have two factor ID to get into my phone.
