A bit of bonus Subscriber-only content. My interview with Rob Schneider. A "From The Archives" piece, originally written in 2013.
This interview took place nearly 10 years ago. I’m sharing it here as Subscriber-only content. I really enjoyed the chance to speak to comedian, Rob Schneider. I’m not sure why it happened - I mean, sure, he was touring the country with a show and the promoter wanted some coverage in advance. I love the history of SNL and had enjoyed Schneider on the show and as a sidekick to Adam Sandler; I was curious about him I guess. I figured he was possibly a lonely, sad guy - the cliche of a high-energy comedian, class clown searching for the adoration of a crowd and low-key and wounded when not in front of a microphone. I think that’s largely what I found. That, and a guy who genuinely loved and knew comedy - and wanted to be considered good at what he did, but also worried that he was still auditioning. It was surreal to speak to him on the phone - particularly because the first time he called I didn’t answer. You see, I was on the other line. With Elvis Costello. Lol. What a time…
