In the 1970s, firebrand poet, activist, singer/songwriter and musical artist Gil Scott-Heron made a series of statements (Whitey On The Moon, The Revolution Will Not Be Televised) that then led to the creation of a series of books and albums and he was as crucial to the development of politically conscious soul as Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield and Stevie Wonder. But he didn’t do it alone. For much of the decade his right hand man was Brian Jackson, a keyboard prodigy who was Gil’s friend and co-composer and bandleader.
